I have an interview for a large law firm in Dallas. I’ve never had a job before where there wasn’t a set starting salary. I’ve been told by the girl who got me the interview that there is some wiggle room when it comes to what I’d be paid per hour.
The last girl made $13.80 per hour but she was there 5 year.
I want to negotiate well and get the best amount possible but I want to be realistic. What do you think?
I was thinking about starting at $12 an hour if they ask me what I’d like to get paid, does that sound good?

Depending on your experience and computer skills, I would start at least at the $12.50 range since large law firms are notoriously known for giving scaled raises.
You can look up the Dallas Bar Association on the web and they maybe able to assist you, but it will completely depend on the circumstances in the divorce. I am going through one now myself and I live in Dallas County (strange coincidence). I was able to do everything myself with the help of the internet, but my divorce is uncontested, with no children, and no fault. We simply agreed to the divorce which makes it pretty easy. Dallas County also has where you can file paperwork to get the filing fee waived for your divorce. Otherwise, the filing fee itself is $245 (with no children). Like any other case that involves a court or lawyers, it will cost you some money. Since a divorce can be done without a lawyer in Texas, don’t be surprised if you cannot find a lawyer who will do it for free.
